| This was a limited developer led competition for a new Headquarters for Cork Boxing organised by Cork City Council. The site is located between a soccer pitch and a terrace of houses in Knocknaheeny north of the city centre.
The building provides a focal point and symbol for the boxing community and is a shop window to the locality. The form is practical and muscular and provokes enquiry while remaining friendly. The simple structure is based on a single unwinding black wall with limited openings under a single roof. The main area for training and competition is overlooked by 2 floors of changing and admin facilities. There is parking for 50 cars on the site. |
